Safety first!

Any time you’re handling anything pertaining to electricity – there is risk involved. Make sure that whatever you’re doing – you’re taking your time, assessing the situation and being certain as to not get in too far over your own head. If at any point you’re not sure what to do – contact us and we’ll come take a look. Be aware of the environment. Follow manufacturer recommendations and always, always follow all safety guidelines.

Make a schedule

Any sound UPS battery maintenance system involves a schedule. Anytime you get into the ‘eh, I’ll get around to it when I’m not so busy’ territory – you can not only become disorganized – but it keeps on getting put perpetually on the backburner. Certain components of your UPS system may need to be serviced at different times so be sure to make a schedule and stick with it!

Keep detailed records

Keep records meticulously and make sure they’re in an easily accessible place. Especially if you call a pro – they’re going to want to see these records. This will get a clearer idea of what condition the battery is in, its history and the like. This will make diagnosing problems easier and save everyone involved a lot of time (and money).

The good, ole ‘eye test’

Great maintenance literally begins at just doing the low level stuff first. Every month or so – poke your head in the server room. Check the battery. How clean is the area? Do you notice any visible signs of damage or lights that don’t look familiar? Look for signs of corrosion. Check out the UPS panel and see if there’s any warning signs. Just doing a quick five minute check up every month can be extremely helpful.

Things WILL need to be replaced

Look even if you spend tons of time taking care of your UPS system – something WILL have to be replaced. That’s just the nature of things. Things also may malfunction due to no fault of your own! But trust us – a little added due diligence will more often than not help you get more out of your system and make your money go further.
